Because we have the skills and equipment it is possible to design and make bespoke items of furniture to customer requirements. Our knowledge of period features enables us to match clients' furniture or décor whatever the style. At the same time, we particularly enjoy designing items in our own style. Commissioned pieces have included a range of free standing items of furniture such as tables, cabinets and bookcases, together with fitted furniture and even staircases. We have particlar expertise in the construction of faithful replicas of Victorian and Edwardian pond yachts and the construction or restoration of early stringed musical instruments such as the late 17thC Viola da Gamba copy shown to the left. Since the 1970's Michael has researched and made viols, mostly English but sometimes French as that illustrated. Recent work has led to the construction of his first Violone, a kind of small, baroque double bass. From his background at art college he has developed a particular interest in the restoration of sculpture. A recent commission was the cleaning and restoration of a life-size marble of Eve attributed to E H Bailey. A similar one can be found in the Victoria & Albert Museum, who were particularly helpful during research. A further interest centres on Victorian and Edwardian pond yachts. Several have been restored in our workshop and faithful sailing replicas made from contemporary publications. Please contact us to discuss your requirements in more depth, we are happy to visit you to help create that individual item.
